- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil until shimmering.
- Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and spread them out in an even layer. Let them cook undisturbed for about 3-4 minutes until they start to brown and release their moisture.
- Stir the mushrooms with a spatula or spoon, scraping up browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes until they are tender and golden brown.
- Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly until fragrant.
- Sprinkle the freshly ground black pepper over the mushrooms and stir well to combine, allowing the pepper to release its aroma and flavor.
- Season with a pinch of salt to enhance the savory flavor, then cook for another 1-2 minutes to meld the flavors together.
- Remove the skillet from heat and serve the mushrooms hot, garnished with additional black pepper if desired.
