Ingredients

  • 2 shots strong brewed coffee or espresso
  • 50 g dark chocolate or chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 ml peppermint extract start with less and add more to taste
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
  • whipped portion whipped cream for topping
  • crushed portion peppermint candies for garnish

Equipment

  • Espresso machine or French press
  • Saucepan
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Measuring spoons
  • Mugs or heatproof glasses

Method

  1. Brew a strong shot of coffee or espresso and set aside while you prepare the other components.
  2. Gently heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until it begins to steam, around 65°C (150°F), without boiling. Add a splash of vanilla extract for added warmth and aroma.
  3. Once the milk is steaming, add the chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips and stir continuously until the mixture is smooth, glossy, and fully melted.
  4. Drop in a few small drops of peppermint extract—start with about 0.5 ml—and stir. Taste the mixture and add more peppermint if desired, ensuring it's balanced and refreshing.
  5. Pour the hot, chocolate-infused milk into the brewed coffee, and stir gently to combine all flavors evenly.
  6. Top each mug generously with fluffy whipped cream, creating a soft, snowy crown that melts slightly into the hot drink.
  7. Finish by sprinkling crushed peppermint candies over the whipped cream for a crunchy, minty burst of flavor and a festive look.
  8. Serve immediately while hot, enjoying the rich aroma, the velvety texture, and the invigorating combination of chocolate, mint, and coffee.
