Ingredients

  • 1 lb sirloin steak or tenderloin cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 4 large potatoes peeled and chopped
  • 1/4 cup milk warm
  • to taste salt and pepper for seasoning

Equipment

  • Large skillet or frying pan
  • Pot for boiling potatoes
  • Masher or immersion blender
  • Chef's knife
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and add the peeled and chopped potatoes. Cook until they are tender and easily pierced with a fork, about 15 minutes.
  2. While the potatoes cook, season the steak pieces generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add a tablespoon of butter. Once melted and sizzling, add the steak bites in a single layer. Cook without moving for about 2 minutes until they develop a golden crust.
  4. Flip the steak bites and add the minced garlic. Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the steak is cooked through and the garlic is fragrant.
  5. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside. Add another tablespoon of butter to the pan, letting it melt with the flavorful drippings. Swirl the butter around, then return the steak to the pan to coat in the butter mixture for a minute. Keep warm.
  6. Drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the hot pot. Mash until smooth, then slowly stir in the warm milk and remaining butter until the potatoes are silky and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Plate the mashed potatoes in bowls or plates, creating a smooth, inviting bed. Spoon the garlic butter steak bites over the mashed potatoes, allowing the juices to mingle and flavor the dish.
  8. Serve hot, with extra garlic butter drizzled on top if desired, and enjoy the comforting aroma and rich flavors of this classic combination.
