Ingredients

  • 4 large fresh carrots bright and firm
  • 1 tbsp butter unsalted preferred
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup pure for best flavor
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme optional, chopped
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice freshly squeezed

Equipment

  • Peeler
  • Large skillet or frying pan
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring spoons

Method

  1. Peel the carrots with a peeler, then cut them into even sticks or rounds for uniform cooking. Set aside.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter, listening for a gentle sizzle as it melts.
  3. Add the prepared carrots to the skillet and cook, stirring often, for about 5 minutes until they start to soften and develop light caramel edges.
  4. Pour in the maple syrup, tossing the carrots to coat evenly, then cook for another 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the carrots are tender and glazed with a shiny coating.
  5. Spritz the carrots with fresh lemon juice to brighten the flavors, then sprinkle with chopped thyme if using.
  6. Remove from heat once the glaze is thick and shiny, and the carrots are tender when pierced with a fork. Serve immediately to enjoy their warm, caramelized goodness.
